1. What is 5G?

5G is the 5th generation of mobile networks. With this technology, you can expect a better online experience using your mobile internet with 5G connectivity.

 

2. What are the benefits of having 5G?

  • Faster speeds, so downloading and uploading large content or data will take much less time.
  • 1,000 times more connections than previous 4G connectivity, allowing you to connect to more devices without compromising speed.
  • 5 times quicker response time, making sending and receiving information more efficient.
  • 5 times more energy-efficient compared to earlier generations.

 

3. When will the 5G free trial end?

The 5G free trial pass is available until the 4th of July 2023. Starting from 5th of July 2023, RM 5 promo price will be applied to the 5G Pass (RRP RM10) until further notice.

 

4. What do I need to do to access Yoodo (by CelcomDigi) 5G services?

  • To access 5G services, you need to subscribe to any high-speed data plan and select “5G Internet”.
  • 5G Bonus Data Promo: Purchase a 40GB to 100GB high-speed data plan and add 5G Internet to enjoy FREE 25GB of 5G/4G data promo.


Note: To experience 5G, use a 5G-compatible device and use your device within 5G coverage areas. The unlimited base plan will not be applicable for 5G services.

5. Am I eligible to enjoy this promotion?

All current active Yoodo (by CelcomDigi) users are eligible to enjoy the offerings of this promotion.

 

6. Is 5G available for iOS devices?

Yes, it is now available. Please ensure that your iPhone model is 12 or later and updated to iOS 16.4.


7. Does the current Yoodo (by CelcomDigi) eSIM support 5G services?

Yes, the current eSIM supports 5G services.


8. Do I need to request a new SIM card to enjoy 5G services?

You can enjoy 5G services with your existing SIM card.


9. What if I don’t see the 5G icon on my phone?

If the 5G icon doesn’t appear automatically, you can set your phone manually to receive 5G coverage. First, make sure that you are within a 5G coverage area so you can have instant access to 5G. Then, follow the steps below:

  • Setting > Connection > Mobile Networks > Network Mode > Select 5G/LTE/3G/2G (Auto Connect).

 

10. Where is the 5G coverage area?

You can check your phone sometimes to spot the 5G icon, which means you are in a 5G coverage area. You can also check out the Digital Nasional website to see if your area has been updated with 5G coverage as DNB rolls out 5G coverage gradually. However, please note that the indication of 5G coverage on the map is not a guarantee of constant service availability.


11. What are the devices that are 5G-compatible?

For a comprehensive list of 5G-compatible smartphone brands, please refer to Digital Nasional website.


12. Are there any device setting changes I need to make on my 5G-compatible device to enjoy 5G services?

If your 5G-compatible device is not connected to 5G coverage automatically, you can perform the following steps below: 

  • Setting > Connection > Mobile Networks > Network Mode > Select 5G/LTE/3G/2G (Auto Connect).


13. I still can’t access 5G services even after subscribing to 5G internet. Why?

You can manually activate your access to 5G services on your device. First, make sure that:

  • You are using a 5G-compatible device
  • You are in a 5G coverage area
  • You are using a USIM card or an eSIM


Then, follow the steps below:


Step 1: Go to Settings > Connection > Mobile Networks > Network Mode > Select LTE/3G/2G (Auto Connect)

Step 2: Go to Settings > Connection > Mobile Networks > Network Mode > Select 5G/LTE/3G/2G (Auto Connect).


14. How fast will my Internet connection be with 5G?

With 5G, your Internet connection will be about 10 to 20x faster than the previous 4G connectivity, with a minimum speed of 100Mbps.


15. Will my Internet be used if I do a speed check?

Yes, any form of speed check will incur usage of Internet quota for now.

 

16. Can I use a hotspot with 5G?

Yes, you can use a hotspot with 5G if your current plans are enabled for hotspots. However, your 5G speed is still subject to your devices or hardware’s WiFi capabilities to give and receive a 5G connection.

 

17. Will I consume my Internet data faster when using 5G?

Your Internet data consumption depends on your usage and the type of online content you are enjoying with 5G. With 5G, you can easily stream videos from YouTube, Netflix or iQiyi at the highest resolution for better viewing. However, using higher resolutions also means your Internet data will be consumed faster compared to streaming lower-resolution content.

 

18. Can I enjoy the 5G services without any data base plan?

You must subscribe to any high-speed data plan & add "5G Internet" to enjoy the 5G services.

 

19. Can I subscribe to 5G internet after I make my payment for my base plan?

No, you will not be able to subscribe to 5G internet as a booster.
If you wish to have 5G access, you will need to *change plan* to select the 5G internet all together with your base plan.

 

20. Do I need to change from a 3G/4G device to a new 5G device to enjoy 5G services?

Yes, you need to upgrade to a 5G-compatible device to enjoy 5G services.

 

21. Can I use a non-5G compatible device to enjoy the 5G services if I have a high-speed base data plan subscription?

No. A 5G-compatible device is required to support 5G.

 

22. I am using a 5G-compatible device, but my area is not listed as a 5G coverage site. Can I still enjoy the 5G services?

Unfortunately, you can only use 4G connectivity when you are out of the 5G coverage sites. However, once you enter a 5G coverage site, you can experience the 5G speed by Celcom.

 

23. What if I want to disable my access to 5G services?

To disable your 5G coverage, you can manually change the settings on your device by following the steps below:

  • Setting > Connection > Mobile Networks > Network Mode > Select LTE/3G/2G (Auto Connect).

 

24. Can I use 5G services while roaming abroad?

If you can access 5G services in Malaysia, you are eligible to use 5G services abroad, too. All Yoodo (by CelcomDigi) Roaming Passes are supported by 5G roaming. Subscribe to any Roam Like Home passes and select the 5G preferred network operators to enjoy 5G when you are travelling with your 5G-compatible devices.

 

25. What are the  5G preferred network operators that support 5G roaming?
