Business Coaching Scam
Modified on Wed, 12 Aug at 8:58 AM
Business coaching scam often begin with social media posts that present someone as financially successful through business, investment or another money-making activity. The person may appear to be an ordinary individual who has discovered an effective way to earn more and is willing to help others achieve similar results. After gaining attention and trust, they introduce a paid course, coaching programs or investment opportunity. However, buyers may receive generic information, unrealistic instructions or content with little practical value, while being encouraged to make further payments.
Key red flags
- Promises of quick and easy wealth: They may claim that anyone can earn large amounts within a short period, even without experience, special skills or significant effort.
- Using luxury and income claims as proof of success: Expensive cars, houses, holidays and statements such as “I earn in a few days what others earn in a month” may be used to create credibility.
- Appearing to offer free help: They may share free guides, introductory lessons or personal advice to appear generous and gain your trust. The paid course is often introduced later.
- Moving the conversation into private channels: Interested followers may be asked to send a private message, join a private group or move to another messaging platform. Away from public view, it becomes easier to make stronger promises and apply pressure.
- Hidden costs and repeated upselling: A low-cost course may later lead to more charges for advanced training, coaching, tools or memberships.
- Promising personal guidance but providing generic content: They may advertise one-to-one coaching, personal support or direct access to an expert. After payment, buyers may receive only pre-recorded videos, basic documents or information that is already freely available online.
Things to keep in mind
- There is no easy shortcut to wealth: Be cautious of claims that you can make a lot of money quickly with little effort, experience or risk. Genuine business and investment opportunities require time, knowledge, effort and careful risk management.
- Do not treat lifestyle as proof: Luxury cars, profit screenshots and income comparisons do not prove that the person’s method works or that their wealth came from the opportunity being promoted.
- Do not let anyone rush you. Limited places, countdowns, and special offers that expire quickly are common pressure tactics. Take time to compare your options.
- Stay cautious in private conversations: Moving to private messages or another platform reduces public visibility. Do not accept stronger promises simply because the seller appears friendly, helpful or willing to guide you personally.
- Talk to someone you trust. A second opinion can help you notice warning signs before you pay or sign up.
