Fake Invitation Scam

The fake invitation scam often exploits people's trust and desire for social interaction, posing as genuine event invitations received via messages or emails. These invitations can appear as wedding invitations, conference invites, private events or parties, open house events, or meet-and-greet opportunities with celebrities. However, behind these seemingly genuine invitations is a deceptive scheme to trick you into giving away personal information or money.

Typically, scammers would prompt you to open an attached file for further details regarding the invitation. Do not click on or open the attachment, as it contains a malicious APK file that can install malware on your device. If installed, this malware can steal your information, including your TAC number, which allows them to make unauthorized banking transactions.

In some instances, the scam may also entice you to send money or provide sensitive information, pretending it's necessary to confirm attendance for a nonexistent event. This manipulation preys on your desire to participate in social gatherings or opportunities, ultimately leading to financial loss or identity theft.
