Sugar Daddy Scam

Modified on Mon, 5 Aug at 10:14 AM

A sugar daddy scam involves an individual attempting to trick you by pretending to be a wealthy older person willing to compensate you for companionship, with the intention to deceive you into giving away your money or personal details.

How Sugar Daddy Scam Work

  • Scammers often create fake profiles on social media or dating apps, portraying themselves as wealthy older individuals.
  • They search for potential targets and express interest in a sugar daddy arrangement.
  • They may present fake evidence of payments to other sugar babies, aiming to make their offer seem legitimate. They might also try to befriend you with friendly and complimentary messages.
  • Tactics used by scammers:
  • They may ask for a small fee under the pretense of proving your loyalty, promising regular payments in return.
  • They might send you money which could be from a stolen credit card and later claim it was a mistake and ask you to send a portion back, leaving you at a loss when the original payment is canceled.
  • Tricking you into providing personal information, either directly or through malicious links.

How To Spot Sugar Daddy Scam

  • They refuse to meet or talk in person; everything is through messages, and they hide their identity.
  • They want you to send money to prove loyalty, especially using apps, gift cards or unsafe websites.
  • They ask for your personal information.
  • If a sugar daddy's message has bad spelling or grammar, it might be a scam.
  • If a sugar daddy's profile has very few friends or followers, it might be fake.
  • Be careful if a profile is new or not used much; it might be a scam. Check if it looks real.

Things to keep in mind:

  • Disregard messages from unknown senders. Refrain from engaging with unsolicited messages from unknown senders.
  • Block suspicious accounts. If you receive messages from suspicious social media accounts, block them immediately.
  • Refrain from clicking on links. Do not click on any links provided in sugar daddy messages to prevent potential identity theft or malware infections on your device.
  • Protect your personal information. Refrain from sharing details with strangers to avoid the risk of it falling into the wrong hands.
  • Avoid sending money to strangers. Resist sending money to individuals you don't know, even if they promise additional funds in return.
